Biography
Swedish Anna Nygren graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm 1993 where she majored in classical piano:
'She has a tremendous gift, she is very musical and she has a refreshingly strong individual personality. Anna Nygren is very capable of playing any genre. She is successful in the world of so called ' serious art music' as well as Afro-American music.
It is a pleasure for me to be able to recommend her to the very best'.
Rolf Lindblom, professor of piano at the Royal Collage of Music in Stockholm.
Like many other free lance musicians Anna has had a great variety of commissions throughout the years. Amongst them she has had big church concerts, she has accompanied many renowned Swedish artists, been a bandleader on shows, editorial staff in Swedish Television’s most popular music quiz 'Så ska det låta' as well as worked as a ballet accompanist at the Royal School of Ballet in Stockholm. Anna has also been a contracted songwriter at Per Gessle’s musical publishing firm Jimmy Fun Music.
Alongside the classical music Anna has always felt drawn to jazz music, why it felt natural that her debut album should contain ageless jazz classics mixed with her own original compositions.
In a Sentimental Mood was recorded at OAL Studios in Stockholm, during three sessions together with some of Sweden's most respected jazz musicians and the album was released in Sweden late spring 2007.
Anna's own song 'Just Wanna Say I´m Sorry' was added on Swedish Radio P4 and she appeared in several Swedish TV programmes that year.
September 2007 she performed at Beijing Jazz Festival with great success and on several other stages in China. She also went to Hong Kong for a one week tour and gave performances for Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
She got album licensed in Asia: Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and The Philippines.
Anna also performed at Dubai Jazz festival 2008.
Midem in Cannes in the middle of January 2009 became a very good kick off for Annas second album.
Anna brought a master of it. She also played some songs live at a party arranged by Ladybird and both European and Asian record companies fell absolutely in love with her songs. Now she is about to sign new international contracts. My Songs was released in Sweden in February and since then Anna has performed with great success at Nybrokajen 11 and Mosebacke, two very well renowned Stockholm music arenas.
